Throughout the company’s history, the Mercedes convertible top has always been popular dating as far back as 1888. The Mercedes soft top is available today on many models including the 1950s 190SL Roadster Chassis 121 to the more current Chassis 209. The longest running model, and arguably one of the most popular in Mercedes convertible top history, is the Chassis 107 Roadster. Making its debut in 1972 the model’s production continued uninterrupted until 1989. Although the convertible top design remained constant throughout its production span, many body and engine changes were introduce in subsequent models. US models included the Mercedes 350SL, 380SL, 450SL, and 560SL. Other models were also available in the European market such as the Mercedes soft top 280SL, 420SL and 500SL.
